Biography

Julee Rosso is and American cook and food writer. She co-founded The Silver Palate in New York City in 1977, along with her partner, Sheila Lukins, at the time, this upscale gourmet take-out food shop was unique. Subsequently, they produced a of preserved foods ranging from pickled vegetables to jams, vinegars, chutneys, mustards and brandied fruits which were sold in shops throughout the US and Europe. In 1982 The Silver Palate Cookbook was published and together with The Silver Palate Good Times Cookbook and The New Basics Cookbook have sold over seven million copies and been translated into seven languages. In 1986 Rosso and Lukins replaced Julia Child as the food editor of Parade. Rosso served on the Boards of The National Specialty Food Association, The American Institute of Wine and Food and the Culinary Institute of America. In 1992 Rosso was inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who in American Food and The Silver Palate Cookbook included in The Cookbook Hall of Fame. Rosso now lives in Saugatuck, Michigan where she and her husband own The Wickwood Inn.
