Gabriel Gaté is a French-trained chef with an international reputation as a cookery author, television presenter and cookery teacher. Gabriel is native of Anjou in the Loire valley of France. As a young man, Gabriel had the chance to learn to cook from some of the finest French chefs (Albert Augereau, Alain Senderens, Claude Peyrot) before coming to Australia in 1977 with his Melbourne-born wife, Angie. He has since established himself as one of the country’s leading communicators on food and cooking. He is the author of twenty-three cookbooks, including ‘French Cuisine for Australians’, ‘Good Food for Men’, ‘How to Teach Kids to Cook’ and Recipes for a great life’ co/authored with professor Rob Moody. His last three books are ‘A Taste of France’, ‘Gabriel Gaté 100 best cakes and desserts’ and ‘A Cook’s Tour Of France’. Gabriel has presented cookery shows on television for the past 35 years, and over the last 11 years has produced and presented ‘Taste le Tour with Gabriel Gaté’, a series of gourmet segments on French regional gastronomy screened on SBS during the Tour de France bicycle race in July each year. On Bastille Day 2000 Gabriel was honoured by the French government with “ La Croix de Chevalier dans l’Ordre du Merite Agricole” for his contribution to French gastronomy.
