Biography

Born Chicago, Illinois, June 7, 1935; grew up in Indiana and on a large farm in Sonoma County. Educated in public schools; graduated in French studies, University California, 1957. Founding pastry chef, Chez Panisse, 1971-1997. Co-founder and partner, Downtown Bakery and Creamery, Healdsburg, 1987. Author, Chez Panisse Desserts, 1985. Married to Charles Shere; three children.
