Biography

Carol Field (1940-2017) took a flying leap and wrote a novel, Mangoes and Quince, after writing about Italy and Italian food since 1972 when she spent three months in Italy working on a film for PBS. In the ensuing years she wrote six other books, In Nonna’s Kitchen: Recipes and Traditions from Italy’s Grandmothers, Focaccia: Simple Breads from the Italian Oven, Italy in Small Bites, Celebrating Italy, The Italian Baker and The Hill Towns of Italy. She was been featured on television cooking with Mario Batali, baking bread with Julia Child, and showed a huge range of Italian breads and pastries with Lorenza de’Medici on her PBS series.
